Now her granddaughter Cere is favorite to take the office of Grand Mayor, until the ghastly murder of the family's eldest retainer casts a dread pall over their name. Demagogues spread stories of infernal pacts and sacrifices, and the Guild of Magicians is ever ready to fan the flames.
