Freeport, the famed City of Adventure, has long served as a crossroads of the World for pirates, merchants, adventurers, rogues and heroes. A call has gone out from the Church of Retribution for adventurers to travel to the island called the Devil’s Cry, who earned its name from the sounds the ocean winds make as they scream through the coastal caves of island southeast of Freeport, and close a rumored gate to Hell. An infamous and mysterious pirate named Cuttleblack has laid claim to the seas around Devil’s Cry and vows death to any that approach. No one has heard from the village on Devil’s Cry in weeks, and the last merchant who arrived back from the island has been confined by the city guard to an insane asylum in the Old City after running through the streets of Freeport naked, less new bloody tattoos carved onto his on his body, spreading tales of demons and horror on the island.
